CH24 chair - oak

The Carl Hansen Wishbone Chair CH24, also known as the Y-chair, is a timeless masterpiece of Danish design art. Designed by Hans Wegner, this chair seamlessly joins the ranks of design classics and is inspired by antique Chinese chairs. Its unique, steam-curved backrest, which also serves as an armrest, gives the chair a flowing, sculptural aesthetic and allows it to be moved close to the table.

The CH24 chair is crafted from solid oak wood in over 100 precise steps and takes around three weeks to leave the factory in Denmark. Each chair is a testament to the dedication and expertise that goes into its manufacture. With a seat made from 120 meters of high-quality paper cord, it offers not only comfort but also a sense of natural elegance.

Carl Hansen & Søn places great emphasis on sustainability and predominantly uses FSC-certified wood sourced from responsibly managed forests. The desire to use resources efficiently is also reflected in the fact that leftover wood is used as fuel for a local district heating plant that supplies heat to over 400 households in Gelsted, Denmark.

Optimal use and care

Wood :

Wood is a living, natural material and should therefore always be cleaned as gently as possible. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth ensures that the furniture always looks good and has a beautiful patina. Never use aggressive cleaning agents to clean furniture.

Solid wood furniture should not be placed near heat sources such as radiators and wood stoves or stored in unheated rooms.
Wood is a natural material and therefore no two pieces are alike. Small knots, visible growth spots and color variations are part of the natural appearance of wood. The parts of a piece of furniture are always assembled according to color and structure so that the piece of furniture is beautiful and complete.

Paper cord

The paper cords used at Carl Hansen & Søn are made from sustainable, FSC-certified materials. We use two different colors of paper cords: natural and black. The natural paper cord is made from unbleached paper while the black cord is dyed.

Normal cleaning and maintenance
Paper cord typically requires little or no maintenance as the durable paper cord is designed to last for years. If you want to clean the seat, you can wipe it with a well-wrung soft cloth and a neutral, colorless soap solution. It is not recommended to do this too often as it may cause unnecessary wear and tear on the paper cord. The paper cord has a thin layer of wax that prevents staining. However, discoloration of the paper cord can occur if strong liquids, e.g. E.g. red wine, fruit juice or strongly colored food can be spilled on the cord.
