The CH24 chair from Carl Hansen & Søn, also known as the Wishbone Chair or Y-chair, is more than just a piece of furniture - it is a true design classic. Created by the renowned designer Hans Wegner, this chair impresses with its harmonious shape and the masterful craftsmanship that is visible in every detail. Inspired by antique Chinese chairs, the CH24 combines traditional elements with modern Scandinavian design.

Made from solid beech wood, the CH24 is characterized by its unique, steam-bent backrest, which also serves as an armrest. This design allows the chair to be moved close to the table, making it particularly practical and versatile. The paper cord seat is not only a visual highlight, but also offers a high level of seating comfort.

The production of the Wishbone Chair is an elaborate process that involves over 100 work steps. Only sustainable materials are used, and the wood is predominantly FSC-certified. Carl Hansen & Søn attaches great importance to the responsible use of resources. Wood scraps that can no longer be used for furniture production are used as fuel for a local district heating plant that supplies numerous households in Gelsted, Denmark, with heat.

The CH24 chair is available in different types of wood, including oak, ash, walnut and mahogany, each with individual finishes and optional natural cord or black cord seat. This variety makes it possible to perfectly match the chair to individual furnishing concepts. Optimal use and care

Wood :

Wood is a living, natural material and should therefore always be cleaned as gently as possible. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth ensures that the furniture always looks good and has a beautiful patina. Never use aggressive cleaning agents to clean furniture.

Solid wood furniture should not be placed near heat sources such as radiators and wood stoves or stored in unheated rooms.
Wood is a natural material and therefore no two pieces are alike. Small knots, visible growth spots and color variations are part of the natural appearance of wood. The parts of a piece of furniture are always assembled according to color and structure so that the piece of furniture is beautiful and complete.

Paper cord

The paper cords used at Carl Hansen & Søn are made from sustainable, FSC-certified materials. We use two different colors of paper cords: natural and black. The natural paper cord is made from unbleached paper while the black cord is dyed.

Normal cleaning and maintenance
Paper cord typically requires little or no maintenance as the durable paper cord is designed to last for years. If you want to clean the seat, you can wipe it with a well-wrung soft cloth and a neutral, colorless soap solution. It is not recommended to do this too often as it may cause unnecessary wear and tear on the paper cord. The paper cord has a thin layer of wax that prevents staining. However, discoloration of the paper cord can occur if strong liquids, e.g. E.g. red wine, fruit juice or strongly colored food can be spilled on the cord.
