Chair CH24 - Ash

The CH24 - Ash chair from Carl Hansen & Søn is more than just a piece of seating furniture; it is a piece of design history. Designed by Hans Wegner, the Wishbone Chair, also known as the Y-chair, joins the ranks of iconic furniture classics. Wegner found his inspiration in the elegant lines of antique Chinese chairs, giving the CH24 an unmistakable and timeless appearance.

The curved backrest, which merges seamlessly into the armrests, is bent using an elaborate steam process. This design not only allows the chair to be moved close to the table, but also gives it an inviting and comfortable sitting posture. With over 100 work steps and the use of 120 meters of paper cord for the seat, each chair is a masterpiece of craftsmanship.

Made from solid ash wood, most of which is FSC-certified and sustainably grown, Carl Hansen & Søn attaches great importance to protecting the environment and conserving resources. Even the smallest wood chip is put to good use, for example as fuel for a local district heating plant that supplies over 400 households in Gelsted, Denmark, with heat.

The Wishbone Chair is available in different types of wood, including beech, oak, walnut and mahogany. Each variant has its own look and feel and can be customized with a natural cord or black cord seat. Optimal use and care

Wood :

Wood is a living, natural material and should therefore always be cleaned as gently as possible. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth ensures that the furniture always looks good and has a beautiful patina. Never use aggressive cleaning agents to clean furniture.

Solid wood furniture should not be placed near heat sources such as radiators and wood stoves or stored in unheated rooms.
Wood is a natural material and therefore no two pieces are alike. Small knots, visible growth spots and color variations are part of the natural appearance of wood. The parts of a piece of furniture are always assembled according to color and structure so that the piece of furniture is beautiful and complete.

Paper cord

The paper cords used at Carl Hansen & Søn are made from sustainable, FSC-certified materials. We use two different colors of paper cords: natural and black. The natural paper cord is made from unbleached paper while the black cord is dyed.

Normal cleaning and maintenance
Paper cord typically requires little or no maintenance as the durable paper cord is designed to last for years. If you want to clean the seat, you can wipe it with a well-wrung soft cloth and a neutral, colorless soap solution. It is not recommended to do this too often as it may cause unnecessary wear and tear on the paper cord. The paper cord has a thin layer of wax that prevents staining. However, discoloration of the paper cord can occur if strong liquids, e.g. E.g. red wine, fruit juice or strongly colored food can be spilled on the cord.
